about

"Marwa (Omen)" unfolds as a poignant exploration through time, weaving together the personal journey of Tardast, an Iranian kid born in 90’s Tehran. Reflecting on the challenges posed by an oppressive educational system and financial hardship, this EP serves as a profound narrative of resilience and defiance against a backdrop of political turmoil and world sanctions.

Comprising six dynamic compositions, the Marwa EP marks the Manteq collective's most comprehensive body of work to date, showcasing collaborations between Tardast and Ling (PAN), Leo, Rugz, and Gomnam. Tardast, who sought asylum in the UK in 2014, has been based in Birmingham and Liverpool, forming the Manteq collective through his passion for music.

While Marwa predominantly unfolds in Farsi, Tardast provides English translations of his lyrics, allowing a broader audience to delve into the album's depth and immersive subject matter. The album is an emotional journey, where Tardast's masterful flow oscillates between intense bravado and somber honesty, bringing a rare openness to modern-day MC storytelling.

Instrumentally, Marwa transcends conventional grime boundaries, thanks to the staggering production by Ling (PAN), Leo, and Gomnam. Their sonic landscape, a fusion of grime, drill, trap, and post-club elements, creates a thrilling, bleeding-edge sci-fi atmosphere. From the brain-rattling beats of 'Ritalin' to the cosmic synthesizer bleeps in 'False No,' Marwa stands as an exceptional release that continually surprises and establishes itself as a standout in this year's musical landscape.
